Policies & safeguarding

A safe foundation
for learning.

Clear expectations, respectful relationships and the wellbeing of learners sit at the heart of our approach. All our policies, including safeguarding policies, are available on request.

Speak up. Ask for help.

Worried about a learner?

If something has happened, or you are concerned about a learner’s safety or welfare, share the concern promptly. You do not need to be certain that harm has occurred before asking for help.

For learners

Tell a trusted adult if you feel unsafe, someone is hurting you or something online is worrying you. You can speak to your tutor or ask to speak to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

You do not have to manage a worry on your own. It is okay to ask for help, even if you are unsure how to explain what has happened.

For families and professionals

Use your agreed Reconnect Learning contact to ask for the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). If you do not have those details, select “Request a safeguarding callback” and leave your contact details without including learner information.

Keep detailed safeguarding records out of a general enquiry form. Ask for a suitable way to share sensitive information.

National guidance

The guidance that informs our approach.

Our work with children and young people is informed by applicable national safeguarding and education guidance. These official sources help explain the responsibilities relevant to each learner, setting and placement.

These sources principally concern England. Requirements differ across the UK and by the type of provision. We work with commissioning schools and other partners on the responsibilities relevant to each placement, alongside applicable local safeguarding procedures.

Policy information

There are no policy downloads on this page. Tell us which document or topic you need and we can provide the relevant policy information. If you are unsure what to ask for, explain your question and we can help identify the appropriate document.

Requesting a copy

Tell us what you need.

Learners, families, schools, commissioners and other professionals can request copies of our policies.

Open the policy request form and select the policy you need, or describe the information you are looking for. You can also request the safeguarding policy alongside other documents relevant to a placement.

Helpful to know

Common questions.

Can I request policies before making a referral?

Yes. Contact us to request the information you need when considering whether provision is suitable.

Can I ask for the safeguarding policy?

Yes. Our safeguarding policies are available on request, along with other policies relevant to the provision.

What if I have a concern about a member of staff?

Ask for the procedure for reporting allegations or concerns about staff and the appropriate person to contact. If your concern involves the safeguarding lead, ask for an alternative senior contact. The relevant council publishes its arrangements for allegations against people working with children, including the role of the local authority designated officer (LADO). Follow that council’s reporting route; arrangements for members of the public and professionals may differ. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.

Will everything I say be kept confidential?

Information should be handled carefully and shared only where appropriate. Safeguarding concerns may need to be shared with relevant professionals or agencies to help protect a learner. Absolute confidentiality cannot be promised.

How do I raise a complaint?

Contact us to request the complaints policy and the appropriate route for your concern. If the issue is about a learner’s safety, use the safeguarding route rather than waiting for a complaints response.

Can I request an accessible version?

Please tell us the format or support you need when contacting us so we can discuss suitable arrangements.

Need a policy or a clearer explanation?

Tell us what information you are looking for and we can help you find the relevant document.
