Learning has more meaning when a young person can see where it fits. A task such as planning an activity within a budget can bring maths, English and confidence-building together, with teaching and support matched to their starting point.
- Maths with a purposeWork out quantities, compare prices and check a budget. The tutor models a method, then helps the learner practise and explain their thinking.
- English that helps us communicateRead a short brief, pick out useful information and explain a choice. Speaking, listening, reading and writing can all contribute to the task.
- Confidence built into the learningBreak the activity into manageable steps, make choices and ask for help. Reflect together on what felt achievable and what support helped.
