Safeguarding at Reconnect Learning
Safeguarding underpins every part of Reconnect Learning's alternative provision, tuition, mentoring and outreach. We are committed to protecting children and young people from harm and creating learning environments where they feel safe, respected and listened to.
Our safeguarding arrangements include named leadership, safer recruitment, risk assessment, clear reporting routes, professional boundaries and coordinated working with schools, local authorities, families and safeguarding agencies.

Our Commitment
The welfare of the child is paramount. Concerns are taken seriously, recorded appropriately and acted upon in line with safeguarding procedures, the circumstances of the concern and the responsibilities of relevant agencies.
Children's wishes, feelings, lived experiences and communication needs are considered when decisions are made.
Staff remain alert to changes, inconsistencies and indicators that may suggest a child needs help or protection.
Concerns are reported without delay through clear internal and external safeguarding routes.
Practice takes account of SEND, communication, family circumstances and additional vulnerability.
Safeguarding Contacts
Contact the safeguarding team as soon as possible where a concern is connected with a learner, member of staff, contractor or activity delivered by Reconnect Learning.
Choose the Correct Route
You do not need proof before sharing a concern. Report what you have seen, heard, noticed or been told using clear, factual information.
Contact our safeguarding team where the concern relates to a learner supported by Reconnect Learning. You may also contact children's social care or the police directly where appropriate.
Report a concern →Concerns about staff, tutors, contractors, volunteers or directors must be reported promptly, including concerns that may not meet the harm threshold.
Contact the safeguarding team →Where you believe safeguarding concerns are not being handled properly, use our whistleblowing procedure or seek independent advice.

This list is not exhaustive. Any disclosure, behaviour, injury, change or situation that causes concern should be shared through the safeguarding route.
Our Safeguarding Approach
Learners accessing alternative provision may have experienced trauma, exclusion, anxiety, disrupted education, care experience or additional vulnerability.
Staff are expected to understand that behaviour, absence and disengagement can communicate unmet need, distress or possible harm.
Safeguarding Across Every Setting
Venue, lone-working, household, travel and communication risks are considered before delivery.
Online sessions follow professional-boundary, communication, privacy and reporting expectations.
Venue suitability, access, emergencies and supervision arrangements are assessed.
Reconnect Learning staff follow agreed site procedures alongside our own safeguarding duties.
Safeguarding information is treated sensitively and shared with people who need it for safeguarding or legal purposes. We cannot promise to keep information secret where a child may be at risk.
Consent is not always required before information is shared to protect a child, although children and families should normally be kept informed where it is safe and appropriate.
Email should not be relied upon for an emergency. Where an immediate response is required, contact the police or the relevant children's social care service directly.
