You Are Not Facing This Alone

When education becomes difficult, families need understanding as well as answers

It can be upsetting and exhausting when your child is struggling to attend, feels anxious about learning or no longer believes that education can work for them.

Reconnect Learning takes time to understand your child’s experiences, strengths, needs and current situation. Our aim is to help families explore calm, realistic and personalised steps forward.

“We begin by asking what is making education difficult for your child, not by blaming them for finding it hard.”

Our Parent-Friendly Approach

We take time to understand before making a plan

We do not believe in one programme for every child. We consider what your child enjoys, what they find difficult, what support already exists and what a realistic next step might look like.

Your child’s voice and experiences
Strengths, interests and goals
SEND, communication and sensory needs
Confidence, wellbeing and relationships
Academic starting points
A manageable and meaningful next step

Working With Your Child

Trust comes before pressure

Some children need time to feel safe with a new adult or new routine. We aim to be calm, consistent and clear while gradually introducing learning and expectations at a pace the child can manage.

Relationship-led support
Clear professional boundaries
Predictable routines
Positive and respectful communication
Regular review of what is helping
Progress towards independence

How Support Is Usually Arranged

Schools and Local Authorities often commission provision

Many children are referred and funded by a school, Local Authority or another responsible organisation. Parents can contact us to discuss the situation, but a conversation does not automatically mean that provision has been approved or funded.

School referral or inclusion funding
Local Authority tuition or alternative provision
SEND or EHCP-related arrangements
EOTAS-style commissioned provision
Private arrangements where available and agreed

What You Can Do

Helpful steps before or after contacting us

Speak with your child’s school or SENCO
Ask what support and reasonable adjustments have been tried
Request copies of relevant plans and reports
Share your child’s views and what happens at home
Ask who has authority to approve funding
Contact us for an initial conversation about possible options

Important information for families

Reconnect Learning is an education and alternative provision provider. We do not make statutory EHCP, EOTAS, placement or funding decisions and we do not replace emergency, clinical or social-care services.

Contacting us does not automatically confirm that a place, tutor or funded package is available. Any support must be suitable, safely planned, accepted and formally agreed before it begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions parents often ask

Can I contact Reconnect Learning directly?

Yes. Parents and carers can contact us for an initial discussion, although many packages require approval and funding from a school or Local Authority.

Can I pay privately for support?

Private arrangements may be possible depending on the service, suitability, staffing and current availability. Please contact us to discuss this.

Can support take place at home?

Potentially, where home tuition is suitable, safely risk assessed and formally agreed.

Can my child learn online?

Yes, where online tuition is suitable for their needs, access and safeguarding arrangements.

Can you help a child with SEND or an EHCP?

Yes. Relevant needs and EHCP outcomes can inform the support plan, but statutory decisions remain with the responsible authority.

Can you help with school anxiety or EBSNA?

Yes. We provide relationship-led attendance, wellbeing, tuition and reintegration support where suitable.

Do you provide GCSE and Functional Skills support?

Yes, subject to the learner’s level, agreed route and availability of a suitable tutor.

Will Reconnect Learning enter my child for exams?

Not automatically. Exam entry, access arrangements and centre services must be confirmed separately.

Can you guarantee that my child will return to school?

No. We support progress towards agreed outcomes, but reintegration depends on the child, receiving setting and wider professional plan.

How quickly can support begin?

This depends on the referral, information available, suitability, safeguarding, risk assessment, funding and staffing.

Will I receive updates?

Communication and reporting arrangements are agreed before support begins and may involve the parent, school and commissioner.

What should I do if I am worried my child is unsafe?

If there is immediate danger, call 999. For concerns linked to Reconnect Learning, use our safeguarding contact route.
