The National Framework

Clear expectations for non-school alternative provision

The Department for Education's Voluntary National Standards provide a non-statutory framework intended to support greater consistency, quality and oversight across non-school alternative provision.

They support providers, schools, local authorities and commissioners in considering whether provision is safe, suitable, purposeful and focused on positive outcomes for children and young people.

Our Commitment

Working in alignment with national expectations

Reconnect Learning uses the standards to inform review of safeguarding, staffing, risk management, curriculum, attendance, learner support, quality assurance and organisational accountability.

Referral Review Suitability, need and intended outcomes considered.

Learner Voice The learner's experience informs provision.

Transition Planning Provision works towards a defined next step.
Important distinction

The Voluntary National Standards are non-statutory standards for non-school alternative provision. Alignment with the standards is not the same as Ofsted registration or registration as an independent school. Reconnect Learning monitors its delivery model and commissioning arrangements accordingly.
