Safeguarding at Reconnect Learning

Keeping Children and Young People Safe, Heard and Protected

Safeguarding underpins every part of Reconnect Learning's alternative provision, tuition, mentoring and outreach. We are committed to protecting children and young people from harm and creating learning environments where they feel safe, respected and listened to.

Our safeguarding arrangements include named leadership, safer recruitment, risk assessment, clear reporting routes, professional boundaries and coordinated working with schools, local authorities, families and safeguarding agencies.

Our Commitment

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility

The welfare of the child is paramount. Concerns are taken seriously, recorded appropriately and acted upon in line with safeguarding procedures, the circumstances of the concern and the responsibilities of relevant agencies.

Child-Centred

Children's wishes, feelings, lived experiences and communication needs are considered when decisions are made.

Professionally Curious

Staff remain alert to changes, inconsistencies and indicators that may suggest a child needs help or protection.

Prompt & Accountable

Concerns are reported without delay through clear internal and external safeguarding routes.

Inclusive

Practice takes account of SEND, communication, family circumstances and additional vulnerability.

Our Safeguarding Approach

Early identification and coordinated action

Learners accessing alternative provision may have experienced trauma, exclusion, anxiety, disrupted education, care experience or additional vulnerability.

Staff are expected to understand that behaviour, absence and disengagement can communicate unmet need, distress or possible harm.

Listen and record Listen without leading, avoid promises of secrecy and record the child's words as accurately as possible.
Report without delay Concerns are passed promptly to safeguarding leadership. Staff do not investigate concerns themselves.
Share information appropriately Information may be shared with safeguarding agencies where this is necessary to protect a child.
Review and escalate Where concerns remain, escalation and professional challenge routes are followed.

Safeguarding Across Every Setting

The same safeguarding expectations apply wherever learning takes place

Confidentiality & information sharing

Safeguarding information is treated sensitively and shared with people who need it for safeguarding or legal purposes. We cannot promise to keep information secret where a child may be at risk.

Consent is not always required before information is shared to protect a child, although children and families should normally be kept informed where it is safe and appropriate.

Email should not be relied upon for an emergency. Where an immediate response is required, contact the police or the relevant children's social care service directly.
